Towards the end of the year, as a follow up from the visit to Ireland, we see the introduction of teaching craft skills for profit, where possible using local wool and materials. All the necessary resources have all been secured and classes will be scheduled as soon as thay are in place. A Lancashire Leader+ project has been selected as an example of best practice by the European Commission to be included in their on-line database. The Lancashire Leader+ programme is managed by Lancashire Economic Partnership on behalf of the Lancashire Local Action Group.
The Developing Competitive Rural Business project run by Northern Rural Training aimed to increase the skills levels within rural businesses by providing outreach training in the community.
The objective of the project was to provide the necessary skills to
employees to help businesses diversify away from traditional agricultural
based employment.
We have secured funding to support the Groups on a fact finding / inspiration gathering exchange visit to North Antrim and Donegal. Ten of our members representing farmers and farmers’ wives are to visited a women’s project in Derry which is looking at the use of textiles, a wool project in Cushendall, and a farmers group in Donegal. We are to have a return visit from people in Co Antrim to look at training and use of traditional crafts e.g. wood products/stick making /stone walling. This will take place later in the year.
'Safety' Family Open Days (1st June Lancaster, 20th July Clitheroe)Two lovely family open days with a theme of safety: in the home, in the community, on line and in the countryside. Those who attended thoroughly enjoyed themselves - see the 'thank you' letter (on the right) from Jade and her Grandma!
Children were awarded a range of certificates on the day including, crime prevention, computer literacy, road safety and fire safety. Brownie Guides worked towards their badges on the days and achieved an incredible twelve badges between them. Well done! See Press Releases for more details.
